Job Description


The RN Clinical Coordinator is responsible for facilitating and coordinating quality continuation of care for a specific patient population and for two Garner practices (UNC Internal Medicine at White Oak and UNC Complex Care at Garner). 


Position: Coordinator/Medical Office Nursing
Full time: Monday-Friday; 40 hours a week 

The essential duties and responsibilities of a RN Clinical Coordinator include:

-Supporting patient safety initiatives by maintaining an environment of safety for patients, self and others
-Providing direct patient care while maintaining current skills and competencies required of the other Registered Nurses in the department
-Identifying, coordinating, and conducting ongoing continuing education programs for the staff and organizing an annual competency fair
-Coordinating clinical care and patient flow activities while ensuring that the care/service delivered to each patient is appropriate and in accordance with the provider's orders, departmental policies and in consideration of the patient's safety needs
-Documenting any care provided in the patient's record ([email protected])
-Assisting with the evaluation of the quality of the care/services provided, identifying any areas that need improvement and making the appropriate recommendations to address any quality deficiencies 
-Assisting in addressing any patient issues/complaints related to the care/services received
-Participating in performance and quality improvement activities
-Serving as the practice's chairperson for quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives 
-Assisting in and assigning responsibility for the QI data collection on a monthly basis
-Maintaining an adequate inventory of clinical supplies and equipment and assisting with adherence to the budget, cost containment and product selection
-Serving as a clinical and management resource for decision-making, problem solving and employee performance reviews
-Serving as a liaison between the staff, providers, and the medical director
-Preparing clinical staff time schedules, ensuring adequate staffing of the unit and providing assistance in covering staff absences

-Fill in for other clinical support staff as needed
-Assisting the manager as a time keeper for the practice
-Advising the clinical support staff and the medical director about matters related to patient care and operations of the department 
-Serving as a role model to other staff in the practice
-Assisting in the development and implementation of an orientation plan for new staff
-Assisting in the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures and ensuring that the clinical support staff is adhering to all of these policies and procedures. This includes The Joint Commission, OSHA and other regulatory standards
-Establishing, maintaining and evaluating protocols, policies and procedures in conjunction with the provider staff
-Recognizing, supporting, and utilizing evidence based nursing practices and adhering to the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics
-Other duties may be assigned.

Practice days/hours: Monday thru Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm with 1 hour lunch. We offer traditional full time work schedules. 

We seek efficient, self-motivated, proactive, organized, critical thinkers who are able to multi-task in a fast paced environment. EPIC EMR experience a huge plus. Fluency in Spanish is highly desired. 




Nursing Diploma, Associate Degree (ADN) or Bachelor's Degree (BSN). Two (2) years nursing experience with at least one (1) year in a medical office or outpatient setting. Prefer previous supervisory experience.

BLS certification required. Licensed to practice as RN in North Carolina.

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Heath Care System. This is not a State employed position.
