This position functions within the UNC Infectious Diseases Clinic, however it is not involved in the direct care or treatment of COVID-19 patients.
The Clinical Nurse II works in a multidisciplinary team setting to identify patients at risk or needing additional support for complications related to HIV infection and other co-morbidities such as hepatitis, diabetes, hypertension, obesity.
Provides HIV patients with nursing based medical case management. This involves applying the science of nursing to the development and implementation of nursing care plans that address adherence to appointments and medication, medical assessment and interventions, routine communication and collaboration with multi-disciplinary team members to meet the diverse needs of the patient. Meet goals and objectives for service provision due to outside funding sources.
Assists in nursing care of patients receiving outpatient parenteral antibiotics. This may include triaging medical problems, lab result review, and regularly communicating with outside home health and case management agencies or pharmacists in order to meet patient needs. Collaborates with other teams within UNC working to provide comprehensive support or linkage services.
Clinic tasks include procedures such as wound dressing changes, blood and body fluids collection, blood draws and medication administration including IV infusions and line access, central line management, and PICC line removal. Clinic nursing team members also assist providers with minor procedures Triage scheduled general Infectious Disease and HIV patients. This includes HIV walk-in patients who receive care in the ID Clinic. Tasks include taking vital signs, document complaints and needs in the EMR, perform nursing assessments, alert charge nurse or medical provider if patient appears to be in distress, escort patient to the exam rooms.
Provides day to day support and oversight of Certified Medical Assistants and Certified Nursing Assistants.
Answers phone calls regarding medical questions and process refill requests.
Clinic hours are Monday through Friday 0830-1700.
QualificationsGraduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. One (1) year of nursing experience.
