SANE RN Per Diem needed for Emergency Department (ED)
The UNC Health Care Emergency Department is a designated Level I Trauma Center serving as North Carolina’s primary referral hospital as well as also serving as the community hospital for Chapel Hill/ Orange County. The ED has current opening for an on call Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE). The SANE RN will need to respond within one hour of being contacted for a patient exam. Duties will include perform medical forensic exams on adult and pediatric victims of sexual assault including head to toe medical assessment for trauma, detailed genital/anal examination, forensic specimen collection and supportive documentation, and photo documentation of bodily and genital-anal injuries with competent documentation. The SANE RN must provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to adult and pediatric sexual assault patients presenting to the ED or patients hospitalized on an inpatient unit. SANE RN will also work closely with victim/survivor advocates, law enforcement, criminal justice officials and civil attorneys.
This is a per diem position with expectation for commitment to be on call for 24 hours per month. As a per diem employee you do not receive benefits and you are considered an at-will employee
Requires graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing and licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Must possess current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. One (1) year of relevant and current experience required.
Strongly prefer experience SANE RNs. Must have completed SANE training and hold a current SANE education / training/ program certificate of completion issued by an approved Adult Adolescent and Pediatric SANE program. Education / training must be based on the national recommendations of the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN).
