Nursing Assistant (Per Diem) needed for the Orthopedic & Trauma Acute Care Unit - 5 Bedtower

This unit has also received the Beacon Award for Excellence designated by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).  The AACN created the Beacon designation to recognize individual units that have set a path to excellence in an effort to highlight critical care units that distinguish themselves in every facet of patient care.  Recipients of a Beacon designation demonstrate excellence in sustained unit performance and patient outcomes. 

The nursing assistant provides routine direct and indirect care in the hospital setting and all work performed is under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician.  Duties include but are not limited to, bathing, dressing, vital signs, serving and collecting food trays, feeding patients who require assistance, ambulating patients, turning/repositions patients, changing linens, running errands, directing visitors, charting, and answering the telephone and callbells.

 

This is an at-will/ temporary position requiring a 12 hour shift every 2 weeks; shifts are for rotating days and nights (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am) with the possibility of every other weekend. Self-scheduling is used to balance the needs of the staff and the unit.  Must be able to commit to a required week long hospital orientation, Monday through Friday (7:30am-5:00pm).

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED. Six (6) months of relevant nursing assistant experience, which may include a nursing assistant course. Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
This is a State position employed by UNC Health Care System.
