We are an outpatient supervised exercise program staffed by a talented multidisciplinary team of RN’s, Clinical Exercise Physiologists and Registered Dietitians. Patients with a range of cardiac conditions and chronic lung diseases benefit from multiple supervised exercise sessions, health education, peer support and one-on-one counseling. UNC REX’s programs are certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, which ensures our programs meet the essential national standards of cardiac and pulmonary care. Staff are trained to work with both cardiac and pulmonary patients but are typically assigned to work primarily with one or the other.
Monitors and provides nursing care to cardiac and pulmonary rehab patients. This includes responding to potential and identified medical emergencies or problems, performing nursing assessments and reporting problems to physician. Monitors telemetry and EKG’s on all rehab participants. Provides support, counseling and education to patients.
Involved in maintaining emergency equipment for proper functioning and readiness for medical emergencies.
Participates in staff meetings/huddles by reporting on assigned patients, providing input on patient progress, medical condition, care plan, writing recommendations and reviewing evaluation results with individual patients.
Assists with staff orientation to medical aspects of the program, such as emergency procedures and equipment, taking blood pressures and pulses, and reportable signs and symptoms.
Documents and communicates patient progress and/or problems with patient’s physician, ER or other follow-up destination.
Works with multidisciplinary team to lead exercises and patient educational sessions.
Assists with other duties as assigned.
Graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing. One (1) year of nursing experience. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled in an accredited program within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
