Job Summary:

 

Manages UNC Caldwell and its physician practices’ supply, distribution, and receiving functions, monitors department revenue and expenses, develops budget, maintains and optimizes inventory, and drives supply chain standardization and best practices.

 

 

 

Description of Job Responsibilities:

 

 

 

  1. Develops department goals and sets the agenda for activity for Materials Management in support of quality patient care.   Provides periodic written and verbal reports to executive leadership summarizing department operations and plans.

  2. Manages the development and maintenance of department policies and procedures, insuring their consistency with professional standards, regulatory requirements and organization operational needs. Insures communication of organizational and departmental policies and procedures, current events and goals to employees.

  3. Manages the daily supply and receiving functions for physician practices. Oversees the par level management and utilization in the practice setting. Supervises data entry activities to assure inventory accuracy for the network.

  4. Develops annual budget. Monitors the budget to ensure proper use of resources, collection of patient charges, and to meet organization financial objectives.

  5. Evaluates efficiency of department procedures, workflow and operations. Develops and implements ease-of-use system improvements with stakeholders. Evaluates vendor utilization, and compliance periodically to ensure optimal supply management within the organization.

  6. Acts as a liaison between the local health system and the UNCHCS, with hard line reporting to the System Executive Director of Hospital and Affiliate Operations and local accountability to the CFO of UNC Caldwell

  7. Utilizes system benchmarking to drives standardization and implementation of supply chain best practices

  8. Employs lean management techniques for constant operational and quality improvement

  9. Assures customer service throughout department with team concept management. 

  10. Assists in implementation of appropriate information technology systems to optimize supply management.

  11. Leads Product Evaluation Committee and leads and/or participates in hospital committees focused on cost containment of equipment/supplies and their evaluation/utilization.

 

 

 

Education Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration or related field preferred

Professional Experience Requirements:

  • One to two years related experience and/or training required; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Two to five years of management experience preferred

     

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

 

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System, in a department that provides shared services to operations across UNC Health Care. This is not a State employed position.
