Description

The Certified technician provides general support to the pharmacist by receiving, reviewing, compounding and dispensing medications. All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.


This position will primarily be focused on preparing Home Infusion IV admixtures for the UNC Home Infusion Pharmacy located at the UNC Shared Services Center. The technician will demonstrate behavior, performance, and values that are consistent with that of the UNC organization and the department. The primary responsibilities include working in a multidisciplinary environment to provide medication preparation and distribution to patients of the UNC Healthcare System. Responsible activities within the pharmacy include, but are not limited to:


  • Prepare IV hazardous and non-hazardous admixtures under supervision of a pharmacist
  • Prepare IV controlled substance admixtures under supervision of a pharmacist
  • Complete and maintain all required competencies to remain in continuous compliance with UNC, Joint Commission, Board of Pharmacy, and any other applicable regulatory authorities
  • Documents pharmaceutical activities using automated systems
  • Assist with training of new technicians in various responsibilities
  • Ensures accuracy of inventory information including quantity on hand and integrity of the medication storage location
  • Handle customer service issues in a helpful, and proactive manner.
  • Deliver exceptional service to patients and allied health care staff.


Qualifications

HS diploma or equivalent. Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred. 


Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.


CPhT from PTCB  unless enrolled in a PharmD program.


Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Heath Care System. This is not a State employed position.
