Job Description


This full time position is located within the UNC Cardiology Clinic. This position provides frontline customer assistance to patients. The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of scheduling patient appointments, including but not limited to incoming phone calls from patients, incoming patient referrals from other practices, incoming and outgoing faxes, management of department workqueue, and routing special requests (e.g. messages for physicians, prescription refills, etc.) as needed. Employees perform a variety of clerical and customer service duties, which require daily contact with patients, strong data entry, exceptional customer service and communication skills are required. The ideal candidate should have an understanding of medical terminology and medical insurance. Cash collections experience is preferred. Responsibilities also include verifying all patient information is current at the appointment check in, checks insurance eligibility and verifies authorization for services as needed, registers new patients and creates medical records. Each employee must demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment. Accuracy and attention to detail are a must for the chosen applicant.


High School diploma or GED. Three (3) years of clerical experience.
This is a State position employed by UNC Health Care System.
