Job Summary:

Processes short term disability claims and benefits. Counsels employees in regards to Family Medical Leave and assists the coworker in filing for FMLA. Maintains monthly FMLA and Short Term Disability Log. Assists with clerical functions as necessary.

Description of Job Responsibilities:

1. Processes short term disability claims and benefits with coworkers by explaining the process, assisting with paperwork, faxing paperwork to physician's office and disability carrier and speaking with staff at physician offices. Prepares Employer postion of the disability forms and sends to carrier. Sends copies of payroll records and additional documentation to carrier. Changes status in Lawson to place coworker out of work and to reactivate them in Lawson when they return. Insures the coworker's ability to return to work from disability by scheduling a Fit for Duty evaluation when deemed necessary. Coordinates the coworker's return to work with the department Manager.

2. Counsels employees in regards to Family Medical Leave and assists the coworker in filing for FMLA. Coordinates FMLA leave with the department Manager through education and communication. Meets with the coworkers to assist the coworker in the completion of the paperwork necessary to file for FMLA for themselves, their family member, or for military FMLA. Verifies the status of the coworker to insure eligibility. Communicates with physician's offices when necessary to assist the coworker in obtaining FMLA or continuing FMLA. Interacts with the department Manager regarding absences, FMLA abuse or coding timecards. Sends approval or denial letters to the coworker and to the
department Manager. Offers and processes Personal Leave of Absence if ineligible for FMLA.

3. Maintains monthly FMLA and Short Term Disability Logs. Maintains the active FMLA files. Sends the files for copying once the file is 3 months past expiration.

4. Performs clerical functions and receptionist duties in the absence of the Human Resources Representative. Completes verification forms for attorneys, insurance companies, social services and financial institutions when coworkers have been out on leave.


Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. Three (3) years of related experience in Human Resources and/or training.

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System, in a department that provides shared services to operations across UNC Health Care. This is not a State employed position.
