The UNC Palliative Care Program seeks an experienced and licensed Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) for a fulltime position with the inpatient Palliative Care team. The role will focus on palliative care consultative services at Hillsborough Medical Center and be integrated into the larger inpatient Palliative Care Team at UNC Hospitals, with limited outpatient clinic practice opportunities. Practice at UNC Hillsborough offers clinical practice opportunities with a variety of subspecialties including Geriatrics, Family Medicine, and Rehabilitation Medicine. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday daytime, though some weekend call and evening flexibility is expected. Ideal candidates will have expertise in pain and symptom management, advance care planning and goals of care discussions, and supportive counseling of patients and families facing serious illness. Responsibilities include a detailed history and physical examination and formulation of consult recommendations, with appropriate involvement of supervising physicians and other interdisciplinary team members based on assessed patient needs. Certification as an advanced hospice and palliative practitioner is preferred.
An Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high quality, cost effective care to patients within the APPs scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program. Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (i.e., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina. Board certification if required by the Department.
