Job Description


This position may involve support of various hospitals and health care systems within the UNC Health System. Employees of an entity managed by UNC Health are external candidates and will be employed by NC Health if selected for the role (this includes, but is not limited to, for purposes of payroll, health benefits, retirement options, and applicable policies).

This position reports to the Office of Research Support and Compliance (ORSC) for UNC Health. 


  • Responsible for financial management of research studies to include timely and accurate invoice processing and maintenance of payment files using appropriate tools and software for assigned research departments/sites. Performs close out reconciliation on all assigned studies and ensures that no invoices are outstanding and that all milestones are collected.
  • Prepares financial reports and develops tracking and reporting mechanisms as required.
  • Assists with research budgets by providing research rates for industry and federal studies.
  • Maintains current knowledge of federal and state claim processing regulations with regard to clinical trials.
  • Performs review and assignment of research charges in Epic and participates in resolution of claims issues as required.
  • Collaborates as necessary with Patient Financial Services, Revenue Cycle Management, Integrated Billing and Corporate Accounting including attendance at regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Participates in System-wide training and education initiatives to improve operational efficiencies.


  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Public Administration or related field (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience).

  • If a Bachelor's degree: Three (3) years of experience in public accounting or management of an operational unit.

  • If an Associate's degree: Seven (7) years of experience in public accounting or management of an operational unit.

  • If a High School diploma or GED: Eleven (11) years of experience in public accounting or management of an operational unit.

  • At least 3 years of experience in Clinical Research, Business Administration, Finance and experience with Epic is highly desired

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System, in a department that provides shared services to operations across UNC Health Care. This is not a State employed position.
