Job Description


The Department of Pediatrics seeks an experienced finance professional to serve as the Director of Finance & Clinical Research in the Department’s centralized administrative core. This individual leads all finance initiates within the department, including Budget, funds flow implementation, cost accounting and financial management, Faculty Compensation and Productivity, and policy compliance. Position also leads the development of financial models and business plans to be used for strategic planning and decision making. This position supervises the department’s finance, research administration, and revenue cycle personnel and serves as the department’s primary interface with the School of Medicine Finance Office and UNC Faculty Physicians, as well as other campus units and departments.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing complex budgets with multiple funding streams, which include clinical revenue, contract income, contracts and grants, and state funds. Candidate must have advanced Excel skills, outstanding written and verbal communication, and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities. Preference will be given to those with experience with University accounting (ConnectCarolina), data analytics, research administration, clinical business management and revenue cycle management. Demonstrated experience planning, directing and implementing significant change management efforts strongly preferred.

Requires Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business, or substantial equivalent with concentration in accounting required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Master's degree in Business, Accounting or Healthcare Administration preferred. A minimum of seven years progressive experience in health care budgeting/finance. Experience in academic medical center desirable. Proven experience in managing multiple and complex projects.


Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance (or substantial equivalent with concentration in finance).


If a Bachelor's degree: Seven (7) years of progressive experience in health care budgeting/finance. Proven experience in managing multiple and complex projects.


If an Associate's degree: Eleven (11) years of progressive experience in health care budgeting/finance. Proven experience in managing multiple and complex projects.


If a High School diploma or GED: Fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in health care budgeting/finance. Proven experience in managing multiple and complex projects.
