Social Worker: Full-Time Social Worker based out of the Bodford Family Transverse Myelitis Center (BFTMC) at the UNC Hillsborough Campus will provide: individualized psychosocial support to patients with transverse myelitis and related diseases and actively participate in interdisciplinary team assessments, organize regular support group meetings, advocate for patients needs and ensure BFTMC patients have continuous high quality support at all times; assist RN with care coordination (if needed); assist patients with obtaining social security benefits; assist with organizing educational events for patients, care givers and providers; develop patient education materials on the topic of psychosocial support in patients with transverse myelitis and related diseases; establish and maintain effective communication with relevant associations (such as National Multiple Society, Transverse Myelitis Association, NORD); participate in community outreach programs; perform patient satisfaction surveys.

Summary:
Completes clinical assessments of bio-psychosocial needs, provides information and short-term therapeutic counseling to patients and their families in relation to social, psychological, financial, and family situations and prepares an intervention plan. Obtains, interprets, and communicates to staff and physicians necessary information regarding patients and families, including bio-psychosocial history information. Identifies possible or actual patient/family crises, providing crisis intervention and emotional support, and creating and facilitating effective plans for resolution. Develops and maintains good working relationships with outside community health and social agencies. Reaches out to the community to learn of and utilize new resources for meeting patient needs. Assists patients and families with obtaining community assistance by referral to proper resources. Documents group therapy and other care activity in patient charts according to department policies and procedures. Adheres to National Association of Social Workers' Code of Ethics.

3. Identifies possible or actual patient/family crises, providing crisis intervention and emotional support, and creating and facilitating effective plans for resolution.
4. Obtains, interprets, and communicates to staff and physicians necessary information regarding patients and families, including bio-psychosocial history information.

Education Requirements:
● Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA) in the state of North Carolina.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● No prior experience required.
