OVERVIEW: This position is responsible and accountable for all the billing functions for UNC Fertility

to ensure revenue is being maximized and to provide timely, proficient, patient-centered services for all patients.

SCOPE: This is a nonexempt position reporting to the Business Office Manager.

I.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; studying existing and new credit and insurance information legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions and/or changes.

•Maintains and updates master files in relation to billing requirements per insurance carrier.

•Updates and adds new insurance information to patients’ accounts.

•Assist in the billing for services such as Cryopreservation Storage.

Prepares collection reports for collection agency and physicians.

•Uncovers mistakes and/or fraudulent activities by investigating account documentation.

•Maintains historical records by ensuring that documents are completed and filed according to policy & procedure.

•Balances payments, refunds and adjustments posted into the system daily.

•Process patient statements weekly.

•Resolves patient billing issues when requested via incoming phone calls or patients coming into the office.

•Obtaining insurance authorization for services such as IVF, surgery and other services as assigned.

•Contributes to team effort by maintaining an excellent rapport and working relationship with all patient services members and cooperating with other departments within the practice.

•Ensures all charges are captured by reviewing missing encounters report.Locate all missing encounters to verify that every appointment is charged out.

•Prepares and enters charges as necessary.

•Other duties as assigned.

II.CONFIDENTIAL AND SENSITIVE INFORMATION:

•Maintains Finance Department confidence and protects patients by keeping information confidential.

III.SCOPE OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

•Patient inquiries

•Balancing payments received

•SOX Compliance

IV.PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

•Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks.

V. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

•High School Diploma acceptable with appropriate hands-on experience is required. Associate Degree in accounting or business is highly preferred.

•Minimum 2 years’ experience as a medical biller and/or collector highly preferred

•Medical terminology and coding experience highly preferred.

•Minimum 1 year experience with the NextGen application preferred

•Knowledge of office procedures and office machines (i.e. fax, copier, etc.).

•Ability to work as part of a multi- disciplinary team.

•Ability to communicate accurately and concisely.

•Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills.
