Job Summary:

The Compliance Program Manager reports directly to the HCS Director and is responsible for assisting in the development of system-wide initiatives and independently planning, managing and implementing compliance program activities at assigned network entity hospitals. Duties may also include privacy activities, as needed and assigned. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: investigating internal concerns, conducting related education and training, facilitating follow through of audit findings, coordinating and leading related meetings, advising network entity leadership and management, and assessing, reporting, and mitigating network entity risk for non-compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.

This position will have a primary location at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, NC and will split time between Wayne and Lenoir Memorial Hospital, with some travel to the Triangle (mainly to Morrisville, NC).

Responsibilities: 

  • Develops, supports and maintains entity specific initiatives which foster a culture of compliance. Leads on-site network entity compliance and privacy activities by receiving, investigating, and documenting compliance and privacy allegations and management requests for assistance regarding regulatory matters; carries out compliance and privacy education; works directly with network entity co-workers to ensure implementation of action plans from audit or internal investigation related findings; manages conflict of interest and other compliance required disclosures such as sanctions exclusion screenings; coordinates and leads compliance related meetings and maintains documents and reports from the meetings.
  • Works directly with, and provides guidance to, network entity leadership and management as well as HCS shared services departments regarding potential compliance risks, issues or concerns.. Independently evaluates and provides advice on the operational impact of regulatory guidance. Serves on local and system-wide committees as the compliance representative for the assigned network entity.
  • Collaborates with Hospital Compliance Executive Director and Director on appropriate compliance work products including, but not limited to, development of compliance related policies and procedures and education and training to ensure implementation of an effective compliance program at assigned network entities and across the health care system.
  • Maintains appropriate professional knowledge and ensures personal development: maintains or acquires certifications and/or memberships, as required, necessary to stay current on matters of compliance and health care related regulations in order to provide professional services in an effective and efficient process.
  • Communicates professionally at all times: communicates (written and verbal) in a professional, clear, and precise manner with all levels of staff.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline.
  • Health care compliance certification, i.e. – CHC etc. or will obtain certification within 18 months or employment
  • Requires five (5) years in appropriate health care related field; One to two years in compliance or privacy preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of health care regulations, principles, concepts and practices
  • Strategic thinker with ability to provide strategic advice, develop options, analyze risks, make good judgements, and solve problems
  • Able to develop highly effective working relationships by building credibility, respect and rapport with internal and external customers
  • Proven ability to secure and analyze a range of quantitative and qualitative information and use this in developing strategies, plans, policies and solutions that meet individual and organizational needs
  • Computer skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel
