The Medical Director of UNC Health’s Virtual Care Center is a dynamic, experienced physician leader who is passionate about transforming the future of healthcare, acting in a telehealth ambassador role for the health care system. He / She partners with Virtual Care leadership to provide clinical and administrative oversight of operations of the telehealth program within UNC Health Care. The position works closely with other Virtual Care Medical Directors to ensure the highest level of quality and clinical design of programs.

 Responsibilities: • Establishes and maintains systems and processes to ensure sustained telehealth program performance and delivery of quality care by well-trained telehealth workforce. • Collaborates with the leaders of clinical and administrative service lines to ensure optimization of resources, delivery of effective and efficient patient centered care across the multiple disciplines providing telehealth services. • Responsible for developing entity relationships with Chief Medical Officers and other entity leaders, to further the adoption and use of telehealth. • Collaborates with others within the state to inform telehealth policy. • Promotes the use of telehealth technologies among providers and departments, and other clinical care providers.

Qualifications: 

• North Carolina Medical License, DEA license, BCLS certification and ACLS certification. Board certified in area of specialty. • Must possess a strong knowledge of clinical processes and operations in a large health care system. • At least one year of experience with quality and performance improvement required. • Two or more years of management experience in healthcare related roles preferred. 

•Experience with telehealth and telemedicine programs and initiatives. • Direct involvement with clinical and integrated IT system planning, implementation, and support in a healthcare setting. • Excellent written, oral communication skills, facilitation skills, and ability to prepare and deliver presentations. • Highly motivated and possess intellectual curiosity, vision and enthusiasm. 

• Self-starter motivated by the challenge of navigating the ambiguity of a new role from ground up. • Must be able to build trust and consensus, lead change, and activate support among diverse stakeholder groups. • Must be a strategic thinker and problem solver with a patient-centered attitude and strong customer service. 


This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System, in a department that provides shared services to operations across UNC Health Care. This is not a State employed position.
