Caldwell UNC Health Care is a private, not-for-profit community hospital in Lenoir, NC, with a 137-bed acute care facility and a provider network of more than 70 primary and specialty care physicians and advanced practice professionals. Caldwell joined UNC Health Care in 2013. In 2020, adjoining Jonas Hill Hospital and Clinic opened to provide both inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services to the surrounding community and for those in need across the region and state. Caldwell County is located in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains with a rich history in sports, music, and the arts. Caldwell County is a warm and inviting community providing the perfect balance between purposeful work and active living.

During the year-long appointment, the Administrative Fellow will gain familiarity with the operations of a community hospital and learn how it functions as part of a nationally recognized healthcare system. With guidance and direction from a multi-disciplinary leadership team, the fellow will have the flexibility to pursue and develop his or her own interests as it relates to organizational needs. Additionally, the Administrative Fellow will have the unique opportunity to gain process improvement experience by playing a key role in facilitating process improvement projects throughout the hospital and its clinics as an integral member of the lean department. The Caldwell UNC Health Care Administrative Fellow will attain a broad exposure to the entire organization, while also developing and refining hard skills that will lay a strong foundation for the rest of his or her career.

Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for assigned Lean Department Value Stream(s) and all of the events and project-work that derives from it.

2. Responsible for facilitating all of the Lean events for assigned Value Steam(s)

3. Attends 1:1 meetings with hospital executive leaders in addition to attending recurring executive meetings

4. Attends UNC system-wide executive leadership meetings.

5. Enhances professional expertise by attending professional seminars and workshops.

6. Completes additional project work as applicable or sought out after by the fellow. 

Administrative Fellows have concurrent exposure to hospital operations and corporate administration in an integrated comprehensive regional academic health care delivery system. Fellows are responsible for completing administrative projects in various areas such as governance, medical staff development, operations, managed care, ambulatory care, policy, finance, planning and marketing. Fellows work closely with the executive team throughout the system (i.e., hospital and corporate level).

● Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline.
● Actively pursuing a Master’s degree in a healthcare-related field with successful completion of Master's degree coursework.

5. Your essay answering ONE of the following three prompts in no more than 300 words:

a. If you were the CEO of UNC Health, what is the first thing you would do?

b. Describe the environment in which you were raised-(your family, home, neighborhood, or community) and how it influenced the person you are today.

c. Tell us about an achievement, not listed on your resume, of which you are most proud.
