The Certified Technician provides support to the pharmacist by reviewing, compounding and dispensing medications. All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
This will be primarily M-F day shift position with standard hours from 8 AM-4:30 PM. In addition, the Certified Technician will participate in at least 2 IV Room sterilization shifts per month. These shifts will occur outside of the standard hours.
The candidate must maintain all required competencies. All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
The UNCH Shared Services Center Pharmacy Services team serves pharmacy locations throughout the UNC Health Care. The Certified Technician provides support to the pharmacist by compounding IV sterile preparations and prepares them for distribution to patients within UNC Health Care. The position requires a high level of self-motivation, strong customer service skills, and teamwork. Under the direction of a Licensed Pharmacist, duties include; preparing IV medications accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner. Compounds and documents pharmaceutical activities using automated and paper systems. Ensures accuracy of data. Works with automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for orders, according to pharmacist and physician orders. Assists with training of new technician employees in various responsibilities; trains and educates other employees in job-specific functions. Orders and maintains inventory stock and supplies.
One year of prior Intravenous Admixture experience is preferred. Knowledge of USP 797 regulations and methodology is a plus.
● High school diploma or GED. Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred.
● Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.·CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.
