Summary:

The Care Redesign Leader is responsible for overseeing daily activities associated with one or more Care Redesign initiatives across UNC Health. Projects will focus on increasing the value of patient care by reducing unwarranted care variation and implementing care redesign tools. This individual develops the project charter, the execution strategy, supports the clinical/business case and manages the work of the chartered work teams to achieve desired outcomes, as well as represents Care Redesign within the UNC Health community and ensures continual focus on achieving desired project outcomes.

This individual will work within the Care Redesign Management structure and interface daily with stakeholders across UNC Health entities to successfully define, plan, executive and deliver desired outcomes. Works collaboratively with administrative leaders/teams, physicians, clinicians, and executives to achieve high performance outcomes. This role reports to a Care Redesign Director. This individual will work within a team of Care Redesign leaders and directors to achieve Care Redesign objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Strategy - Develops the project charter, execution strategy, supports clinical/business case and various high-level stakeholder and project management plans required to achieve desired outcomes. Works with Care Redesign leadership team to ensure project execution strategy aligns with other concurrent initiatives.
  • Communication - Communicates with department leadership and key HCS and Entity Leaders to communicate project strategy, direction, and changes.
  • Facilitation and Quality Tools - Leads and facilitates project-related discussions between stakeholder groups and utilizes skills and experience to reach desired outcomes, which may include business process designs, data analysis and visualization, project charters and work plans, care paths and order sets.
  • Projects - Responsible for delivering assigned projects on time and creating and monitoring the Care Variation metrics, as well as strategy and business requirements.  Oriented to maximize each project’s impact on increasing the value of patient care by decreasing care variation.
  • Complex Issues - Analyzes and resolves complex issues.  Manages political issues to engage stakeholder groups and manage downstream impact of Care Redesign work.
  • Change Management - Lead identification, facilitation and execution of change management initiatives required to achieve desired project outcomes.
  • Quantitative Skills - Able to apply data manipulation and analysis skills for reporting to support Care Redesign initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Science or Health Care-related field. Masters degree preferred
  • If a Bachelor's Degree, five (5) years of business, and/or quality process improvement design and implementation, project management or related business experience, management consulting, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • If an Associates Degree, nine (9) years of business, and/or quality process improvement design and implementation, project management or related business experience, management consulting, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Healthcare experience required
  • Experience in Ancillary services such as laboratory, radiology, infusion therapies, and advanced imaging offered outside of an acute care setting preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in areas such as Tableau, EHR (read only), Share Point Navigation, Business Objects, and Vizient preferred
  • Proven ability to lead complex project initiatives in a clinical and/or business environment, with excellent analytical and communication skills, including facilitation and presentation skills
  • Experience leading groups of stakeholders/leaders to achieve quantifiable results, and proven ability to excel and achieve results in a team-oriented, matrixed environment
  • Proficient in Office Suite tools, and knowledge of project and change management techniques and tools
  • Understands healthcare cost structures including DRG and CPT billing and revenue cycle processes
