Job Summary:

The Executive Director Nursing Operations, reporting to the CNE, is responsible for driving the executive’s strategic nursing initiatives forward, including communicating and managing deliverables across the business. The executive director will direct, monitor and contribute to strategic projects and program management for the nursing executive’s office. This position requires balancing and influencing multiple competing priorities and individuals and is responsible for the central coordination of all strategic and operational activities. The employee will provide leadership and direction for nursing change management initiatives, budget and financial planning, project management, and program development on behalf of the executive. Additionally, this position has oversight for all ongoing projects supporting the nursing executive’s agenda to ensure that the established milestones and measurement criteria are being met. 

Description of Job Responsibilities: 

Act as an advisor and be a sounding board to the executive. Central point of contact and owner of content for all executive’s leadership meetings. Responsibilities to include: Plan, organize, develop agenda, and facilitate CNE driven meetings. Capture major take aways, maintain milestones and track, assign and maintain clear action items and exception reporting. Work with leadership team to ensure follow-up on deliverables and escalate key issues that are stalled. Assist with operational management decisions and actions as directed.

Manage executive’s communications, including key announcements. Oversee presentations, including communications, prep and set expectations to presenters and attendees. Develop and deliver customer facing content for executive presentations, communication plans and communication programming. 

Analyze data and organizational metrics to provide insight and recommendations to improve the organization’s accountability and efficiency. 

Understand the priorities across the nursing and patient care portfolio and work with the CNO team and others across the entities as well as key stakeholders to facilitate the successful achievement of goals. 

Conduct research and analysis to prepare clinical and executive documents, presentations and meeting materials. 

Lead strategic projects, ensuring adherence to project plans, timelines, and excellence of deliverables consistent with business strategy. 

Collaborate with CNE, System Executives, and teams, providing thought leadership and critical thinking to UNC Health system initiatives. Oversee operating strategies to ensure goals are achieved. 

Represent CNE at Health System and external meetings.

Other Information

Education Requirements:  

Master’s degree in relevant field or Doctorate Degree (DNP, JD, PharmD, etc.). Bachelor’s or Master’s degree must be in Nursing.

Licensure/ Certification Requirements:

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.

Professional Experience Requirements: 

Requires a minimum of ten years of related experience, with at least seven years of management experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements: 

Excellent Communication skills. Ability to work autonomously and with senior executive and c-suite leaders.  Ability to effectively interact and influence at the most senior levels of the organization. Strong Execution Mind-set.  Very organized, process orientation.  Bias towards action and sense of urgency.  Demonstrated courage to challenge the norm, question the direction, and recommend innovative solutions.  Ability to work cooperatively and strategically in a team environment with all levels of executives and staff.  Focus on continuous improvement.  Enjoys and takes pride in organizing and prioritizing multiple work streams.
