Summary:
This position performs all testing in the Histocompatibility lab to include typing of Class I and Class II antigens by molecular methods, antibody screening and identification by solid phase methods, and cross-matching by flow cytometry. The technologist maintains records to prepare summaries of patient information for use by clinicians in determining transplant recipient and donor compatibility. The technologist will participate in the 24 hour on call rotation dependent upon the chosen work schedule.

Hours (your choice):
Monday – Friday 3:30pm to 12:00am (Participates in rotating on-call and holiday coverage)
Tuesday – Friday 1:00pm to 11:30pm (Participates in rotating on-call and holiday coverage)
Friday – Monday 9:00am to 7:30pm (Participates in 1 week of on-call coverage to accommodate a holiday each year)
*Must be able to take exam within 12 months of hire
Responsibilities:
1. Investigates problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow.
2. May participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
3. May perform teaching of Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents and training of new employees. May serve as a technical resource.
4. Performs quality control and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory.
5. Performs routine and less standardized test procedures which includes special chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic laboratory tests. Observes tests and reactions and provides data.
6. Prepares specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required.
7. Reports results to healthcare providers. Consults/confers with health care providers regarding test results.
8. Reviews test results to ensure accuracy of report and timely correction of errors.

Education Requirements:
● Requires Bachelor's of Science degree. Must meet eligibility requirements upon hire to sit for MT exam within 12 months of hire.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Must become MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA), or MT (AMT) certified within 12 months of hire.
Preferred certifications: The American College of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ACHI) Certified Histocompatibility Technologist: CHT(ACHI) Certified Histocompatibility Specialist: CHS(ACHI)
