The Department of Pastoral Care at the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC is currently looking for a dedicated, passionate, and highly caring clinical chaplain to join the chaplaincy team. The department has robust ACPE CPE and clinical chaplaincy programs. The clinical chaplain will provide the highest quality of pastoral care to patients, family members and the staff focusing on the emergency and critical care needs at UNC Hospitals during the night shift.
This position will be dedicated to providing pastoral care to the patients, family members, and staff in the Emergency Department, critical care areas and respond to requests via the on-call pager. The chaplain must have a passion for providing crisis care. The clinical chaplain will also provide care to non-acute areas as requested. The job responsibilities will include developing spiritual care and professional relationships with night shift employees. The chaplain will communicate with nursing leadership to assess the most critical spiritual needs during their shifts, participate in department and hospital wide committees, provide documentation for patient encounters, provide 24 hour back-up coverage in rotation with other pastoral care staff members, lead worship service in the hospital chapel requested, teach didactics within the Department of Pastoral Care and in the hospital community, serve as a mentor to a CPE resident, complete administrative tasks, and other assigned task may be given according to the spiritual needs of the institution. The work week schedule will be Mondays 1:15P - 4:30P, Tues – Thurs. 8p-8:15a unless otherwise specified due to institutional care needs.
Other information:
Education Requirements:
● Master's degree in Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent degree from an accredited seminary or university.
● Graduation from accredited college and seminary with four (4) units of ACPE CPE, faith group endorsement.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Board eligible by the Association of Professional Chaplains. Certification must be obtained within two years of hire.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Prior pastoral experience in hospital setting and/or congregation.
