Job Description

The Director Supply Chain performs administrative duties related to departmental strategic planning, budget preparation and monitoring; oversight of sub-department supervisors; establishment of policies, procedures, standards and objectives for the delivery of services; establish criteria for the evaluation of sub-department performance and application of process improvement programs and coordinates with other departments to provide maximum level of services to patients and staff. 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Integrate departmental services with other departments and organizational vision and mission statements. 
  • Direct the production of departmental budgets, staffing plans and monitoring tools to ensure that the department operates within allocated funds. 
  • Perform monitoring activities to assess intro and interdepartmental operations. Maintains quality control programs, including assessment of safety, infection control and environment of care policies and procedures for the department. 
  • Establish standards of performance assess competency and promote improvement through the use of merit increases, promotions or disciplinary actions. 
  • Maintains a professional working relationship with vendors, while protecting the best interests of the hospital. 
  • Maintains confidentiality of financial transactions and organizational related business. 
  • Maintain expertise in related areas to act as an informational resource available to medical, nursing and administrative staff.
  • Plan, organize and direct departmental activities based on patient, organizational and community needs. 
  • Prepares bids for supplies and equipment according to existing procedures in order to promote competition and cost savings. 
  • Ability to prioritize workload in order to promote a high level of productivity, and ensures staff is performing up to pre outlined standards. 
  • Responsible for maintaining purchasing related accounts payable discrepancies at an acceptable level as set by the V.P. of Finance and CFO. 
  • Effective negotiation with vendors in order to achieve the best cost, quality and service for the most economical price and have the ability to analyze the total cost for the good or service. 
  • Ability to work with all hospital facilities to create specifications for bid and purchase of goods and services. 
  • Working with departments to bring about compliance and standardization for items on group purchasing and negotiated contracts. 
  • Demonstrates a tolerance for differences and ambiguity and a willingness to entertain new ideas, changes and opposing opinions. 
  • Represents the organization in a professional manner at local, state or national events, meetings, conferences or conventions as required. 
  • Manages staff to effectively educate, train, evaluate, motivate, delegate and monitor their performance. 
  • Provides oversight for the maintenance and recording of payroll records for area(s) of responsibility. 
  • Role model and holds employees accountable for the Code of Conduct. 
  • Ensures regulatory and organizational compliance in an ethical workplace. 
  • Demonstrates effective time management, ability to manage multiple projects and meets identified deadlines. 
  • Promotes trusts and employee engagement through effective and timely communication strategies.



Bachelor's Degree in Business, Health Care Administration or related field is required. Master's Degree preferred.


Three to five years of progressive management experience in a hospital setting is highly desirable. 

Specialized Knowledge/Skills: 

Knowledge of current strategic and operational approaches used in the health care industry. Experience with departmental budgets, inventory logistics, capital acquisition, human resource management and labor laws and organizational committees. Knowledge of current leadership, management and quality improvement concepts and applications. Experience with regulatory and accreditation processes in a health care environment. 


A thorough understanding of Supply Chain computer applications is required.
