Description

Summary:
Performs highly skilled technical and advisory work in the installation, maintenance, modification, construction, demonstration and repair of highly complex diagnostic imaging devices or systems with a focus on CT, MR, Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Therapy. Performs quality assurance testing and calibration in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications. Provides a high level of technical support and training to imaging departments and assists in the development of processes/procedures relative to clinical use of technologies.
Responsibilities:
•Analyzes, troubleshoots and repairs highly complex diagnostic imaging equipment and systems utilizing established electronic test and measurement equipment and techniques. Installs, calibrates, maintains and tests diagnostic imaging equipment and/or systems. Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on imaging equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations, applicable codes, standards and department policy.
•Trains medical and clinical staff on the safe and proper use of imaging equipment and systems. Provides operational and technical advice on CT, MR, Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Therapy devices. Interacts with clinical staff on a regular basis to insure needs are being met and may be expected to be present during the clinical use of equipment. Acts as a technical resource for Biomedical Technicians and newer Imaging Service Engineers to help them grow in ability, responsibility, and experience. Assists in grooming Biomedical Equipment Technicians to provide first look on imaging equipment.
•Documents and maintains accurate records of all diagnostic imaging inspections, repairs, adjustments, etc. performed on all assigned equipment. Requests/orders necessary repair and spare parts according to established procedures and contract relationships.
•Participates in both internal and external educational programs through professional associations to develop and maintain the required current technical aptitude. Provides technical support and assistance to imaging staff in their use of diagnostic imaging devices. Conducts scheduled and unscheduled electrical and functional safety inspections on highly complex imaging equipment. May assist imaging staff in the selection process for new equipment purchases and installations. May assist with service contract negotiations. This may include site visits and/or meetings with equipment manufacturers.
•Makes recommendations for capital equipment replacements to Clinical Engineering Leadership. Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to imaging equipment maintenance and use.

Education Requirements:
● Associates Degree in Biomedical Engineering or comparable formal training offered through the United States Armed Services
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● • Certification by the ACCE for Clinical Engineering (CE) or ACI Certification for Biomedical Equipment Technicians (CBET), and/or Certification for Radiology Equipment Specialists (CRES) is required
● • Valid driver's license is required. NC State license is preferred.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● 7 years of experience supporting medical devices, at least 4 of which focused on imaging equipment
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● • Knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform this job are typically acquired through advanced training and the ability to demonstrate core competencies, which includes preventative maintenance, troubleshooting experience, design and modification and/or equivalent experience with digital imaging technology and networking technology.
● • Demonstrated high level proficiency and knowledge of the repair and maintenance of multi-vendor fixed and portable radiography systems. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office or similar products (primarily Outlook, Word and Excel). Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of networking technology. Demonstrated ability to multi-task several projects.
