UNC Medical Center Operating Room and Pediatric Congenital Heart Incentive Program

*Applicable to Chapel Hill main campus and Hillsborough Hospital*

 

Eligibility (ALL of the following must be satisfied):

  • Chapel Hill main campus: Candidate must be hired by UNC Health as a Clinical Nurse II-OR, Clinical Nurse III-OR, Clinical Nurse IV-OR, Surgical Technologist, or Surgical Technologist Sr. to work at the Chapel Hill main campus in Adult & Children's Operating Room or the Pediatric Congenital Heart Program. 
  • Hillsborough campus: Candidate must be hired by UNC Health as a Clinical Nurse II-OR, Clinical Nurse III-OR, Clinical Nurse IV-OR, Surgical Technologist, or Surgical Technologist Sr. to work at the Operating Room.
  • The position must be full-time, regularly scheduled 36 hours or more (.9 FTE +).
  • Hire date beginning on/after May 3, 2021.
  • The candidate must have twelve (12) months or more of experience.
  • Not previously a recipient of RN recruitment incentive options within the past twelve (12) months; (i.e., relocation assistance, commitment incentive, tuition loan assistance) within a UNC Health system owned entity.
  • Per Diem and contract/traveler staff are eligible for incentives if they are converting to full-time, permanent status within the Adult & Children's Operating Room or Pediatric Congenital Heart Program at the Chapel Hill main campus.
  • Employee must remain in good standing throughout the work commitment period. If employee receives a final written warning, resigns, or is terminated, the incentive will be discontinued;
  • Teammate must be in active status at the time of their commitment work-through date; otherwise, the payment will be cancelled. Remaining installment payments may resume upon the teammate’s return to active status. Active is defined as a teammate who is actively working or receiving Paid Time Off.
  • The work commitment must be fulfilled in the department where the employee is initially hired.

 

Positions that qualify:

  • Clinical Nurse II-OR (Chapel Hill main campus or Hillsborough campus)                                                     
  • Clinical Nurse III-OR (Chapel Hill main campus or Hillsborough campus)                                                  
  • Clinical Nurse IV-OR (Chapel Hill main campus or Hillsborough campus)  
  • Surgical Technologist (Chapel Hill main campus or Hillsborough campus)
  • Surgical Technologist Sr. (Chapel Hill main campus or Hillsborough campus)

                                    

*Qualifying hires at Chapel Hill main campus are eligible for ONLY ONE of the incentives listed below. Either the sign-on and commitment or tuition loan assistance.

 * Qualifying hires at Hillsborough campus ONLY qualify for the sign-on and commitment incentive. Tuition loan assistance is not applicable to the Hillsborough campus.

 

Pediatric Congenital Heart Program Sign-on and Commitment Incentive (Chapel Hill main campus)

  • Experienced Operating Room RNs - $10,000 sign-on bonus at the time of hire and $25,000 commitment bonus paid over three (3) years. 
  • Experienced Surgical Technologists - $5,000 sign-on bonus at the time of hire and $15,000 commitment bonus paid over three (3) years.
  • Increased hourly pay rates
  • Relocation assistance

 

Adult Operating Room, Children's Operating Room, and Hillsborough Campus Operating Room Sign-on and Commitment Incentive

  • Experienced Operating Room RNs - $10,000 sign-on bonus at the time of hire and $20,000 commitment bonus over three (3) years. 
  • Experienced Surgical Technologists - $5,000 sign-on bonus at the time of hire and $10,000 commitment bonus over three (3) years.
  • Increased hourly pay rates
  • Relocation assistance

 

Payment Schedule for all positions:

The commitment incentive will be paid over a three (3)-year period in equal installments beginning at six (6) months from the start date, and then every six (6) months through the teammates third-anniversary date.

*Payment will be treated as taxable income and directly deposited in your paycheck.

 

 

Tuition Loan Assistance (All experienced RN's for Chapel Hill main campus and only Surgical Technologists within the Pediatric Congenital Heart Program)

Up to $25,000 may be offered to defray the cost of tuition loans for a previously earned pre-licensure nursing degree or Surgical Technologist program. The amount offered is based on proof of outstanding loan at the time an offer of eligible employment is accepted. Once qualified for Tuition Loan Assistance, no further proof of outstanding loan is required. Tuition loan assistance will be paid in six (6) equal installments beginning at six (6) months from the employee's start date, and will continue to be paid every six (6) months through the employee's third-anniversary date. Payment will be treated as taxable income and directly deposited in your paycheck.

 

The following positions do not qualify for the Recruitment Incentive Programs:

  • Candidates, hired into positions, if they are currently employed, or employed within the previous twelve (12) months, at any owned entity within the UNC Health system.
  • UNC Health employees are not eligible for recruitment incentives when going from one entity to another.
