Johnston Incentive Program

Eligibility (all of the following must be satisfied):

  • Must be hired into a full-time position. 
  • ​Not currently employed, or employed within the previous twelve (12) months at any UNC Health system owned entity. 
  • Not currently employed as a current per diem, temporary at any facility within the UNC Health System. Johnston Health PRN staff that transfer to a full-time Johnston Health position, will be eligible for the commitment incentive options in approved areas.
  • Teammates must remain in good standing throughout the work commitment period. If the teammate receives a final written warning, demotion, resigns, or is terminated, the incentive will be discontinued and all remaining scheduled payments will be discontinued.
  • The teammate must be in active status at the time of installment payment; otherwise, the payment will be discontinued. The remaining installment payments may resume upon the employees return to active status.
  • The work commitment must be fulfilled in the department where the employee is initially hired. Teammates may be allowed to transfer within the entity and maintain the incentive only if the receiving department is incentive eligible and the incentive approved by the accepting manager / director.

Eligible Positions:

Advanced Practice

Positions: CRNA

  • Commitment Incentive – $40,000 will be offered to a CRNA or Anesthesiology Assistant. Payment is spread over a two (2) year period in four (4) installments. Payment is made after each six (6) month period of work is completed. Effective 4/5/23 and after.

  • Tuition Loan Forgiveness – Up-to $100,000 will be offered (amount based on outstanding loan) to a CRNA or Anesthesiology Assistant. Payment is spread over a three (3) year period in six (6) installments. Payment is made after each six (6) month period of work is completed. Effective 4/5/23 and after.

Clinical Laboratory

Positions: Medical Lab Technician, Medical Technologist I and II, Medical Lab Supervisor, Medical Lab Specialist, Histology Technician, Histotechnologist, Cytotechnologist

  • Commitment Incentive - $10,000 paid over a two (2) year period in four (4) installments


  • Tuition Loan Forgiveness -  up to $15,000 paid over four (4) years every 12 months


Positions: Cardiovascular Sonographers, CT Technologists, MRI Techs, Radiologic Techs, and Ultrasound Techs

  • Commitment Incentive (Cardiovascular Sonographers, MRI Techs, Radiologic Techs, and Ultrasound Techs) - $15,000 paid over three (3) years
  • Commitment Incentive (CT Technologists) *added 2.14.24 - The option of $10,000 paid over two (2) years or $15,000 paid over three (3) years


Positions: RN Clinical Nurse II, III, & IV

  • Commitment Incentive of $20,000 paid over four (4) years’ or $15,000 paid over three (3) years (BSN or MSN). $16,000 paid over four (4) years’ or $12,000 paid over three (3) years (ASN)


  • Tuition Loan Forgiveness -  up to $25,000 paid over four (4) years

Positions: RN Clinical Nurse I (New Grad)

  • Commitment Incentive of $15,000 paid over two (2) years’ (ASN, BSN or MSN).(effective March 2023)

*Note: New Graduate RN Clinical Nurse I will be eligible for the New Grad Commitment Incentive provided they have successfully passed the NCLEX.

Nursing Support 

Positions: Behavioral Health Tech, Clinical Support Tech I & II, ER Tech, Nursing Assistant I & II, and Prenatal Tech

  • Commitment Incentive - $5,000 paid over three (3) years

Position: LPN (Clinical Bedside)

  • Commitment Incentive - Payment of $2,500 upfront and remaining payment is spread over 1 year in 2 installments of $1,250 after each 6 month period of work is completed.

Pharmacy Tech

Positions: IP Pharm Tech I (Non-Cert), OP Pharmacy Technician I, IP Pharm Technician II (Cert), OP Pharmacy Technician II, Pharmacy Transition Specialist, IP Pharmacy Technician III, Pharmacy Access & Sol Tech, Specialty Pharmacy Technician, Pharmacy Technician Specialist, Pharmacy Technician Supervisor.   • Commitment Incentive - $1,500 paid over two (2) years

Respiratory Care

Positions: Respiratory Therapist I, II, and Senior, Respiratory Care Clinical Specialist, Respiratory Care Coordinator, Respiratory Care Supervisor, and a Respiratory Care Manager

  • Commitment Incentive - $15,000 paid over three (3) years 

Surgical Technologist (Operating Room Tech)

  • Commitment Incentive - $5,000 paid over two (2) years. Plus an additional $1,000 at time of hire. ($6,000 total)
  • Up to $10,000 may be offered for RN Clinical Nurse II, III, or IV positions. RN Clinical Nurse I may be offered up to $5,000. Questions should be directed to your recruiter.

Relocation Assistance

  • Up to $10,000 may be offered for RN Clinical Nurse II, III, or IV positions. RN Clinical Nurse I may be offered up to $5,000. Questions should be directed to your recruiter.
