UNC Hospitals New Grad Surgical Tech Incentive Program

Incentives are applicable to new graduate Surgical Technologists with UNC Medical Center and UNC Hillsborough.

Surg Tech I-A Eligibility Requirements:

  • Entry level position for new graduates of Surgical Technology program or Surgical Technologists with less than twelve (12) months of outside experience.
  • Must be hired on April 16, 2023 or after within the Main OR, Children's OR, Labor and Delivery, and Hillsborough OR only. 
  • Employed full-time, scheduled 36 hours or more.
  • Not currently employed or employed within the previous 12 months at any UNC Health system owned entity. Per Diem and/or contract/traveler staff are eligible if converting to a full-time, permanent position.
  • Teammate must remain in good standing throughout the work commitment period. If employee receives a final written warning, resigns, or is terminated, the incentive will be discontinued.
  • Teammate must be in an active status at the time of the installment payments, otherwise, the payments will be canceled. Remaining installment payments may be paid if the teammate returns to active status, as long as the teammate meets all other eligibility requirements.
  • The work commitment must be fulfilled in the department where the teammate is initially hired.

Incentive Options:

1. Commitment Incentive

- $5,000 will be offered for a one (1) year commitment. Payment will be paid in two (2) equal installments, six (6) months and twelve (12) months after successfully working through their anniversary date.

2. ​​​​Commitment Incentive

- $10,000 will be offered for a two (2) year commitment. Payment will be paid in three (3) equal installments, six (6) months, twelve (12) months, and twenty-four (24) months after successfully working through their anniversary date.

Relocation Assistance

- Relocation assistance maybe offered in addition to the commitment incentive. The relocation amount is based on the candidates location. Questions should be directed to your recruiter.


*Payments will be treated as taxable income and directly deposited in your paycheck. 

*UNC Health teammates are not eligible for recruitment incentives when going from one UNC Health-owned entity to another.
