UNC Hospitals RN Incentive Program

Eligibility:

  • RN Clinical Nurse II, III, IV; must have 12 months or more of RN experience.
  • RN Clinical Nurse I, Nurse supervisor, and Nursing leadership positions may only qualify for relocation assistance.
  • Full-time appointment that requires scheduled work 36 hours or more per week.
  • Not currently permanently employed or employed within the previous 12 months at any UNC Health System entity (owned or managed). UNC Hospitals per diem and traveler/contract staff are eligible if converting to full-time (36 + hrs/wk) status.
  • Employee must remain in good standing throughout their commitment period. If an employee receives a final written warning, the incentive will be discontinued.

Eligible Inpatient Units:

UNC Hospitals - Main Campus (Chapel Hill, NC):

  • Adult Med/Surg (includes 1 Memorial, 4 West, 5 AND, 3 West, 8 BT, 5 West, 5 East, 5 BT, 7 NSH)
  • Adult Stepdown (MPCU, ISCU, 3 AND, CTSU) 
  • All Adult ICU (STICU, CVICU, CICU, MICU, BICU, NSICU)
  • Emergency Department
  • PICU/PCICU, 7 Children’s, 5 Children's, CSSU
  • Inpatient Psych units (3 NSH)
  • Labor and Delivery, 3 Women's
  • 4 Oncology, BMTU

UNC Hospitals - Hillsborough Hospital (Hillsborough, NC):

  • Adult Med/Surg (3 BT)

UNC Hospitals - Wakebrook (Raleigh, NC):

  • Wakebrook Inpatient Unit

 Eligible Perioperative Units (eligible as of August 27, 2021):

  • UNC Medical Center - PACU/Pre-op
  • Ambulatory Surgery Center - OR/PACU/Pre-op
  • Hillsborough Hospital - PACU/Pre-op

Commitment Incentive and Tuition Loan Expectations:

  • Employee must be inactive status at the time of installment payment; otherwise, the payment will be canceled. The remaining installment payments may resume upon the employees return to active status.
  • The work commitment is to the department where initially hired.

Incentive Options:

  • Tuition Loan Forgiveness* - Up to $25,000 may be offered to defray the cost of tuition to obtain an already earned pre-licensure nursing degree. The amount offered is based on proof of outstanding loan. Payment is spread over three (3) year period in six (6) installments. Payment is made after each six (6) month period of work is completed. Inpatient: Effective for hires starting on or after 6/14/2021. Outpatient: Positions added and eligible after 7/9/2021. Eligible units will periodically be re-evaluated to determine the discontinuation date. 
  • Commitment Incentive* -   Up to $20,000 may be offered to an experienced RN. Payment is spread over a three (3) to four (4) year period in six (6) to eight (8) installments. Payment of $2,500 is made after each six (6) month period of work completed. Inpatient: Effective for hires starting on or after 6/14/2021. Outpatient: Positions added and eligible after 7/9/2021. Eligible units will periodically be re-evaluated to determine the discontinuation date. 
  • Relocation Assistance - may be offered for RN positions. Questions should be directed to your recruiter.

 

  • Employee Referrals - Current employees will receive $3,000 for referring a qualified hired RN candidate. Payment is made in two equal installments. First 6 months after new hire start date and second at one-year completion.

*Commitment Incentive and Tuition Loan Forgiveness are not offered in combination.
