UNC Hospitals Paramedic Commitment Incentive Program

Positions Identified as Eligible:

  • Ground Critical Care Transport Paramedic
  • Ground Advanced Life Support Paramedic

Program Guidelines:

  • Ground Critical Care Transport Paramedic must have three years or more of prior full-time paid Paramedic experience;
  • Advanced Life Support Paramedic must have one year or more of prior full-time paid Paramedic experience;
  • The employee must work in a regular full-time qualifying Paramedic position (meaning, appointed to work 36hrs+/week);
  • Hire date beginning on/after December 13, 2021;
  • Not currently employed or employed within the previous 12 months at any UNC Health System owned entity; UNC Hospitals per diem and traveler/contract staff are eligible if converting to full time (36+ hours/week) status;
  • Employees must remain in good standing throughout the work commitment period.  If the employee receives a final written warning, demotion, resigns, or is terminated, the incentive will be discontinued and all remaining scheduled payments will be canceled;
  • The employee must be in active status at the time of installment payment; otherwise, the payment will be canceled. The remaining installment payments may resume upon the employees return to active status;
  • The work commitment must be fulfilled in the department where the employee is initially hired.

Payout Amounts:

  • $5,000 to experienced Paramedics. 

Pay-out Details and Schedule:

The Commitment Incentive will be paid over a three-year period, beginning at 6 months from the start date, and every six (6) months through the third-anniversary date following the schedule below:

  • Six (6) months                               10%                        
  • Twelve (12) months                     10%                        
  • Eighteen (18) months                  10%                        
  • Twenty-four (24) months            20%                        
  • Thirty (30) months                       20%                        
  • Thirty-six (36) months                 30%
