Inpatient Respiratory Care Incentive Program

*Commitment incentive effective for offers extended July 27, 2021 and after. Candidates must be hired as a Respiratory Therapist I, Respiratory Therapist II, or other respiratory care position requiring respiratory care license, for inpatient units (as well as Carolina Air Care) at UNC Hospitals or UNC REX Healthcare. Eligible units and positions will be periodically reviewed for a discontinuation date. There is no discontinuation date at this time. 

Eligible positions:

  • Respiratory Therapist I (inpatient units and Carolina Air Care)
  • Respitatory Therapist II (inpatient units and Carolina Air Care)
  • Respiratory Care Clinical Specialist
  • Respiratory Care Coordinator
  • Respiratory Care Supervisor
  • Respiratory Care Manager

Eligiblity and Program Guidelines:

  • Full-time position that requires scheduled work for 36 hours or more per week. 
  • ​Not currently employed, or employed within the previous twelve (12) months at another UNC Health system facility. UNC Hospitals per diem and traveler/contract staff are eligible if converting to full time (36+ hours per week) status. 
  • ​Employee must remain in good standing throughout their commitment period. If an employee receives a final written warning, the incentive will be discontinued. 

Payout Amounts:

  • $15,000 for a three (3) year commitment.

Pay-out Details and Schedule:

The commitment incentive will be distributed over a three (3) year period and will be considered part of the referring employee’s yearly earned income, subject to all applicable tax withholdings.
