UNC Hospitals & UNC REX Healthcare - Nursing Support Incentive Program

*Commitment incentive effective for offers extended November 22, 2021, and after. Candidates must be hired in a qualifying positions listed below at UNC Hospitals (UNC Medical Center Main Campus, Hillsborough, or Youth Behavorial Health Hospital in Butner) or UNC Health Rex (Rex main hospital, Rex Holly Springs hospital, and Raleigh/Apex Rehab and Nursing Centers). Licensed Practical Nurse has been added as an eligible position for UNC Hospitals as of March 16, 2023. This program will be periodically reviewed for a discontinuation date. There is no discontinuation date at this time. 

Eligible positions for UNC Health Rex:

  • Clinical Support Technician I and II
  • Emergency Room Technician (added 7/11/22)
  • Nursing Assistant I and II
  • Prenatal Technician (added 7/11/22)

Eligible positions for UNC Hospitals:

  • Administrative Specialist, Central Resource Office - Nursing Staffing Systems (effective 11/12/2023)
  • Behavioral Health Technician 
  • Clinical Support Technician I and II
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (added 3/16/23) 
  • Nursing Assistant I and II

Eligibility and Program Guidelines:

  • Full-time position that requires scheduled work for 36 hours or more per week. 
  • Not currently employed, or employed within the previous twelve (12) months at any UNC Health system owned entity. UNC Hospitals and UNC REX Healthcare per diem and traveler/contract staff are eligible if converting to full-time (36+ hours per week) status.  
  • Employees must remain in good standing throughout the work commitment period.  If the employee receives a final written warning, demotion, resigns, or is terminated, the incentive will be discontinued and all remaining scheduled payments will be discontinued.
  • Teammate must be in active status at the time of their commitment work-through date; otherwise, the payment will be cancelled. Remaining installment payments may resume upon the teammate’s return to active status. Active is defined as a teammate who is actively working or receiving Paid Time Off.
  • The work commitment must be fulfilled in the department where the employee is initially hired.

Payout Amount:

  • LPN - $10,000  (added 3/16/23)
  • Administrative Specialist, Central Resource Office - Nursing Staffing Systems, Behavorial Health Tech, Clinical Support Tech, Emergency Room Tech,  Nursing Assistant, and Prenatal Tech - $5,000

Payout Details and Schedule for UNC Health Rex:

  • Equal payments will be made to the teammate at their six (6) month, twelve (12) month, and twenty-four (24) month work through dates during a two (2) year work commitment. (updated for job offers made September 5, 2023 and after.)

Payout Details and Schedule for UNC Hospitals:

  • Equal payments made to the teammate every six (6) months during a three (3) year work commitment.
