Medical Assistant, Certified Incentive Program

Commitment Incentive Details

  • Applicable entities and effective dates: 

            - UNC Medical Center and UNC Faculty Physician Clinics - July 1, 2019
            - UNC Physicians Network (Triangle) - July 1, 2021
            - UNC Health Rex - January 24, 2022; UNC Health Rex Urgent Care - February 19, 2024
            - UNC Health Caldwell - February 11, 2025

  • $7,500 to full-time Medical Assistant, Certified (Level I, II, and III) with UNC Medical Center, UNC Faculty Physician clinics, UNC Physicians Network (Triangle), and UNC Rex clinics (including Rex Urgent Care). UNC Health Caldwell - $1,000 sign-on bonus to full-time Medical Assistant, Certified, and $5,000 commitment incentive. UNC Health Caldwell - $1,500 sign-on bonus to full-time Medical Assistant Trainees. (UNC Incentive amount may change over time to remain competitive with market trends.
  • At UNC Medical Center, UNC Faculty Physician clinics, UNC Physicians Network (Triangle), and UNC Rex clinics (including Rex Urgent Care) commitment incentives will be paid over a three-year period in three (3) equal installments (12 months, 24 months, and 36 months). Payment will be treated as taxable income and directly deposited in your paycheck. At UNC Health Caldwell commitment incentive will be paid over a two-year period in two (2) equal installments (12 months, 24 months). UNC Health Caldwell sign-on bonus to be paid in the first 30 days. 
  • Be hired as a Medical Assistant, Certified I, II, or III. UNC Health Caldwell also includes Medical Assistant Trainees. 
  • Be employed, and continue to work, in a regular full-time qualifying Medical Assistant, Certified position (36+ hours per week). 
  • ​Not be currently employed, or employed within the previous 12 months at another owned entity within the UNC Health system. 
  • Medical Assistant, Certified, staff in per diem, traveler, or contract positions at any owned entity within UNC Health are eligible if moving to a full-time Medical Assistant, Certified, position (36+ hours per week).
  • Remain in good standing throughout the work commitment period. If the employee receives a final written warning, resigns, or is terminated, the incentive will be discontinued.
  • Teammate must be in active status at the time of their commitment work-through date; otherwise, the payment will be cancelled. Remaining installment payments may resume upon the teammate’s return to active status. Active is defined as a teammate who is actively working or receiving Paid Time Off.
  • Remain in the department where they initially hired.

*UNC Health employees are not eligible for recruitment incentives when going from one owned entity to another.
