UNC Health Rex RN Incentive Program

RN Commitment incentives and Tuition Loan Forgiveness are applicable to Rex main hospital and Rex Holly Springs Hospital - CN II, III, and IV. Select CN I (New Grad Nurse) jobs are also availble for incentives. To learn about our CN I (New Grad Nurse) incentives, click here.

Eligibility Requirement:

  • RN Clinical Nurse II, III, IV; must have 12 months or more of RN experience. Eligible for the option of either commitment incentive or tuition loan forgiveness.
  • Employed full-time; scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week
  • Employed in a direct patient care RN position
  • Clinical Areas: REX & Holly Springs Hospitals - Inpatient (see * below), Surgical/OR, Procedural (see * below)
  • Not currently employed, or employed within the previous 12 months at any UNC Health system owned entity.
  • Employee must remain in good standing throughout their commitment period. If an employee receives a final written warning, the incentive will be discontinued.
  • UNC REX per diem and traveler/contract staff that transfer to a full-time UNC REX or Holly Springs position (30+ hrs/wk) will be eligible for the commitment incentive options in approved areas.
  • Teammate must be in active status at the time of their commitment work-through date; otherwise, the payment will be cancelled. Remaining installment payments may resume upon the teammate’s return to active status. Active is defined as a teammate who is actively working or receiving Paid Time Off.

Incentive Expectations:

  • Employee must be in active status at the time of installment payment; otherwise, the payment will be cancelled. Remaining installment payments may resume upon the employee's return to active status.
  • The work commitment is to the organization where initially hired.
  • Employee may be allowed to transfer and maintain the incentive if the receiving department is eligible and approved by the accepting manager/director.

Incentive Options:

Please note: CN II, III, or IV new hires may receive either tuition loan forgiveness OR the commitment incentive listed below at the choice of the new hire. CN I (new grad nurse) may receive tuition loan forgiveness and up to $5,000 in relocation assistance (based on location). 

Example: If the new hire receives the commitment incentive, they may also receive relocation assistance and participate in the employee referral program, but cannot receive tuition loan forgiveness.

  • Tuition Loan Forgiveness - Up to $25,000 may be offered to defray the cost of tuition to obtain an already-earned ADN, BSN, or MSN. The amount offered is based on proof of outstanding loan. Payment to the new teammate is spread over a three (3) year period in three (3) equal installments after their twelve (12) month, twenty-four (24) month, and thirty-six (36) month work-through dates. (payout schedule updated October 19, 2023)
    • Effective for new hires starting on or after 4/6/20
    • Ends – TBD and re-evaluated by administration
  • Employee Referrals - Current employee will receive $3,000 for referring a qualified and hired RN candidate. Payment is made in two equal installments. First payment is at 6 months after the new hire start date, and second payment is at one year completion. Learn more here!

  • Relocation Assistance - up to $10,000 may be offered for RN CN II, III, or IV positions. RN CN I may be offered up to $5,000. Questions should be directed to your recruiter.
  • Commitment Incentive – Up to $20,000 may be offered to an RN who has already earned an associate's, bachelor's, or master's nursing degree. The amount offered is based on the department and years of commitment. Three (3) year commitments are paid in equal installments to the teammate after their twelve (12) month, twenty-four (24) month, and thirty-six (36) month work-through dates. Four-year commitments are paid in equal installments to the teammate after their twelve (12) month, twenty-four (24) month, thirty-six (36) month, and forty-eight (48) month work-through dates.
